Once you’ve detected mould, it’s important to determine the cause and type. An independent firm of microbiologists will analyze the mould and let us know how much is present on surfaces and in the air. We can then put a decontamination protocol in place. The report issued by the analysis firm will include useful recommendations, based on the extent of contamination.

Dry rot is caused by the wood-eating fungus serpula lacrymans. The fungus grows naturally in forests, like other mushrooms. It commonly attacks wood in dark, damp and unventilated areas such as basements and crawl spaces. Dry rot decays the wood structure until it decomposes. You can recognize it by its fine white strands and reddish “tears” at the edges of the mycelium. Dry rot is very common in France and we’re seeing a lot more of it across Quebec.
We’re the first company in Quebec to have become certified in the removal of dry rot. Our specialists received training in France from an experienced mycologist, learning effective techniques to eradicate this fungus, which is causing extensive damage here.
The Quebec government will be putting in place a program to help those affected by dry rot. In the last provincial budget, the government earmarked over $5 million over three years to support homeowners struggling with dry rot.
